The remix to emissions hot and fresh out da kitchen, mama rollin’ dat bottle got every man in here sippin. And woman. Let’s get to the point. Jackalope just announced that they’ve signed up to be even more bad-ass than they already are. How is that possible? They’re reducing that ever-growing carbon footprint of ours.

They’ve hooked up with Austin-based company, Earthly Labs, to implement what’s called a Carbon Capture System that will reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 50% – an estimated 100,000 pounds of waste CO2 per year. Let’s put it into perspective, shall we?

It’s difficult to assign an average emission rate to the brewing industry simply because it varies widely based on each brewery’s specific practices and processes. But we can at least get a general idea thanks to our friends out in Fort Collins. New Belgium did an assessment a few years ago that determined that the carbon footprint of a 6-pack of Fat Tire® Amber Ale (FT) equates to about 3,188 grams of CO2. Let me explain why that’s significant… one tree absorbs about 60 grams of CO2 per day, which means it takes a little over 53 days to offset the carbon emissions of 1 six-pack. Which also means I need to plant a forest because I am definitely putting back more one six-pack every 53 days.

This new tech Jackalope is using will allow them to capture their own CO2 waste and re-use it for their carbonation and packaging, saving that 100k pounds of CO2 per year which is equivalent to the work of about 1,500 trees. That’s definitely worth raising a glass to.
